technopreneurship program for UP Cebu: mentoring
multidisciplinary teams of undergrads pulled from CS,
Management, and Product Design.
In 2016, UP Cebu inIT was awarded the UP Gawad Pangulo Award for

Sen. Bam Aquino is a former social entrepreneur turned senator
that continues to support Filipino entrepreneurs and the
development of micro, small and medium enterprises or MSMEs.
Thanks to his first law - the Go Negosyo Act - there are over
580 Negosyo Centers across the Philippines providing training
and mentorship, market linkage, and access to financing for
Filipinos who wish to build a successful business.
He has also passed laws that bridge the gap between local MSMEs
and access to financing and is working on the passage of the
Innovative Start-up Law to incentivize tech startups and social
enterprises in the Philippines.
He has been hailed by some as one of the most productive and
hardworking senators - now with nineteen (19) laws passed in
just four (4) years.
Just recently, a revolutionary reform principally sponsored by
Sen. Bam in the Senate - the Universal Access to Quality
Tertiary Education Act - was signed into law, making college
education free in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), Local
Universities and Colleges (LUCs), and TESDA-run Tech-Vos
Institutions (TVIs).
Magiging libre na po ang kolehiyo para sa milyon milyong
estudyante sa mga SUCs, LUCs at TVIs!
Even with all his accomplishments, Sen. Bam continues to work to
improve the lives of Filipino families through entrepreneurship,
employment, and education.
And even in the most trying times, Sen. Bam stays true to his
hopeful brand of politics, believing that every Filipino can
overcome poverty with the right support and opportunities.

The startup culture is not for everybody, especially those with
backgrounds working for large organizations with fully formed
processes and the top technology tools at their disposal to
complete their work goals. The first thing that separated Norlin
from others at her level is she never focused on what wasn’t
available to her; she used the tools that were available to get
the job done.
Norlin has a strong ability to prioritize. While building out
these rudimentary systems, she still had many other essential
responsibilities including maintaining client relationships,
managing dozens of employees, helping implement new processes
internally, and managing multiple new projects to deadline.
Norlin knew exactly what tasks she could push, when she could
push them, and was able to communicate changes in priorities
well in advance so everybody’s expectations were being met.
Norlin relishes the role of being a mentor and advisor to fellow
leaders within the organization that have less experience while
also listening to those experienced voices around her to
continue her own development.
Most importantly, Norlin understands that her role as a leader
doesn’t mean she needs to do everything on her own. She can
create and share a vision, select the right people to perform
the right functions to move those projects forward, trust them
to get the work done, and remain a pillar of support that
inspires the people she oversees to invest in her and the goals
of the company. These are amazing traits to have for anybody let
alone with Norlin’s amount of time in the management role.
